EVENTING

Eventing or Combined Training is a riding discipline that combines several different phases into one competition. In Pony Club, riders and ponies compete in dressage, show jumping and cross country. Many of our members compete in eventing and Pony Club offers competition for riders from beginning eventers on up.

D EVENTING RALLY

Laine was our sole representative at D Eventing this year, and her scramble team placed 16th out of 20. I'd love pictures, if Laine has some!

REPORT FROM FAIR HILL 2004

Antietam sent one C team to Fair Hill this year, although our team got to go by the skin of their teeth. The requirement that all members complete a horse trial at the Novice level to be on the team almost tripped up one team member when her ususally reliable mount decided he was under no circumstances going to go in the water jump at Full Moon Farm. One schooling session cleared up that problem and they went on to have a very nice outing at a much more difficult course a couple of weeks later at Seneca Valley. It looked like we had a solid 3 person team ready to go – we weren’t able to pick up a fourth rider, so we really needed all three!

A few days before the rally though – Secret somehow tore part of her hoof off in Julie’s trailer and was out. Fortunately, games playing friends offered Regan a ride on their event pony turned games pony, and Copper Penny was added to the team. But – not done yet – Scotty lost a shoe, it wasn’t put back on correctly and now he was too sore to go! Once again a nice little horse turned up, and Brett had a ride on Jazz, who she rode once for a short time before taking her off to rally.

Once at Fair Hill, things went fairly well – tack room set up was accomplished smoothly, and Ashleigh was introduced to the joys of being stable manager at Fair Hill. No disasters at dressage, although Penny didn’t quite make the switch from games to dressage. Cross Country day began with Mitchell and Motley having a clear run with no time penalties. Brett’s unfamiliarity with her mount took its toll at the log on the lump jump however, and she had to retire after 3 refusals. Regan and Penny flew around the course, and also had a clear round.

Show jumping day also went well, with Mitchell and Motty going clear with 4 time faults, and Brett and Regan riding clear. (I think – someone correct me if I’m wrong here). Everyone seemed to have a great time, even if we finished 10th, and this was Mitchell’s last Fair Hill Rally, as she graduates from Pony Club this year. Hopefully, next year all the horses will stay sound, and we’ll be able to send a full team or two!

Our members compete at other horse trials during the year also. Here are some pictures of Kait and Jade at the Marlborough Round Robin held in spring 04.
